Stevie Lee
Stevie Lee has been the host of WFIT's very popular jazz show "Body and Soul" for the past fifteen years.
In honor of Stevie's last show, Brother Frank's theme for this weeks's show was "Ladies of the Blues". Frank and Jay were trying to do a whole show playing only women artists. Father Jay started the show with Helen Baylor's moving version of "What Can I Do For You", followed by the Branchette's "I Know I've Been Changed" (a Music Maker recording). In his first set, Frank played the likes of Sue Foley and Beverly "Guitar" Watkins.
In keeping with the theme, to commemorate the birthday of the late Screaming Jay Hawkins, Nina Simone's "I Put a Spell On You" concluded the second hour. Great songs by Koko Taylor, Etta James, Ann Peebles, Susan Tedeshi, Katie Webster, Marsha Ball, Big Maybelle and others kept Frank and Jay on a roll. The Irma Thomas classic, "The River is Waiting", gave everyone in the studio goosebumps. The show ended with Aretha's "Mr. Big Stuff", and Mary Wells doing "My Guy".
Thanks to Stevie Lee, for all the great music over the last 15 years. We will certainly miss her "Blues Breaks".
