James Cotton

James Cotton was born July 1, 1935 in Tunica, Mississippi.  He is a Blues harmonica player, singer and songwriter who is the bandleader for the James Cotton Blues Band.  He has a solo career that continues to this day.  His work includes the following genres: Blues, Delta Blues, Harmonica Blues, and Electric Harmonica Blues.  One of James Cotton's earliest memories was of his mother ,Hattie, playing chicken and train sounds on her harmonica and for a few years he thought that these were the only sounds you could make with the little instrument.  One year he got a harmonica for Christmas, it cost 15 cents, and it wasn't long  before he had mastered the chicken and train sounds.  Then there was a 15 minute radio show called "King Biscuit Time" that began to broadcast on KFFA across the river in Helena, Arkansas.  The star of the show was the harmonica legend Sonny Boy Williamson (Aleck Rice Miller).  The Young Cotton put his ear to the radio and realized that the harmonica did more and that is when the love affair began.  for more information go to the website www.jamescottonsuperharp.com
